For all professionals who attend patients with chronic muscle pain, the Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain provides you with needed resources for providing the expert care that these patients need. This journal serves as a central resource for the dissemination of information about fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, and other types of musculoskeletal pain. This includes: basic & clinical research; molecular biology; epidemiology; innovative opinion; psychology; anesthesiology; dentistry; neurology; orthopedics; pain management; neurophysiology; neuroanatomy; electrophysiology; therapeutics; medical biochemistry; pharmacology; physiatry; psychiatry; rehabilitation; rheumatology. There is no question that musculoskeletal pain has become one of the most important and troublesome problems for clinicians and investigators in numerous specialty fields. The establishment of an NIH section for musculoskeletal diseases underscores the rising importance placed on this area in the national health agenda. While there are many general pain journals and the topic of pain is also covered in many disciplinary journals, there had not been a central forum devoted entirely to this topic. Our aim is to provide, in each quarterly issue, at least five original scientific papers; two to four case reports; one invited literature review article; Letters to the Editor; two to four book reviews; and an "announcements" section pertinent to the topic of musculoskeletal pain. Scientific papers are processed through double-blind peer review. The journal publishes articles that serve as resources for the vast array of professionals who must deal with acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain. This includes professionals in anesthesia, emergency medicine, family practice, neurology, nursing, orthopedics, physiology, psychiatry, and rheumatology.
