    在中國,盡管轉(zhuǎn)基因食用油標(biāo)識(shí),以至金龍魚轉(zhuǎn)基因油被揭露造假標(biāo)識(shí)“非轉(zhuǎn)基因”,更多轉(zhuǎn)基因大豆成分豆?jié){、豆奶、豆腐、黃、醬油不標(biāo)識(shí),轉(zhuǎn)基因大豆蛋白成分的嬰幼兒食品、營養(yǎng)保健食品、火腿腸、香腸、冷凍食品、蛋糕、面包不標(biāo)識(shí),喂食轉(zhuǎn)基因大豆、玉米飼料家畜、家禽的轉(zhuǎn)基因“肉、蛋、奶”更沒有標(biāo)識(shí)。為此,美國與中國消費(fèi)者個(gè)體,即便持續(xù)食用轉(zhuǎn)基因成分食品致病、致癌、致提前死亡,他們也無法向轉(zhuǎn)基因食品生產(chǎn)企業(yè)提出轉(zhuǎn)基因食品致疾病法律訴訟。孟山都抗草甘膦轉(zhuǎn)基因大豆1996年商業(yè)化種植與中國農(nóng)業(yè)部2004批準(zhǔn)轉(zhuǎn)基因大豆進(jìn)口逐步達(dá)到每年進(jìn)口5000多萬噸規(guī)模,隨轉(zhuǎn)基因食品越來越多上餐桌,美國與中國民眾多方面健康惡化趨勢(shì)明顯。但是,如同煙草公司多年前那樣,轉(zhuǎn)基因支持者宣稱,“迄今尚未發(fā)現(xiàn)確有科學(xué)實(shí)證的轉(zhuǎn)基因食用”致疾病訴訟案例。為什么?首先,無論美國或中國疾控中心,至今拒絕組織這些健康惡化趨勢(shì)與轉(zhuǎn)基因食品相關(guān)性的流行病學(xué)調(diào)查。其次,美國食品藥物管理署(FDA)不強(qiáng)制要求轉(zhuǎn)基因食品標(biāo)識(shí),美國轉(zhuǎn)基因食品公司因而對(duì)轉(zhuǎn)基因食品絕不標(biāo)識(shí),因?yàn)樗麄兦宄J(rèn)識(shí)“轉(zhuǎn)基因標(biāo)識(shí)”猶如“有毒骷髏”標(biāo)識(shí),將造成絕大多數(shù)消費(fèi)者拒購。無標(biāo)識(shí)情況下,絕對(duì)不能將美國消費(fèi)者“被騙、受誤導(dǎo)”每年平均購買87.6公斤轉(zhuǎn)基因食品,與“知情主動(dòng)購買”混為一談。

美國民眾“被欺騙、誤導(dǎo)無可奈何無法拒絕購買轉(zhuǎn)基因食品”,還是“知情前提下愿意購買轉(zhuǎn)基因食品”,有根本性不同,不可混為一談!

    中國轉(zhuǎn)基因推手為轉(zhuǎn)基因食品辯護(hù)的一項(xiàng)重要“借口”是,“美國人購買食用轉(zhuǎn)基因食品,沒有拒絕購買不食用轉(zhuǎn)基因食品”,甚至搬出美國農(nóng)業(yè)部關(guān)于如是說作為依據(jù)。

    不少人不一定知道,美國食品藥物管理署(FDA)不要求轉(zhuǎn)基因食品標(biāo)識(shí),因此在美國所有轉(zhuǎn)基因食品生產(chǎn)商毫無例外不標(biāo)識(shí)“轉(zhuǎn)基因”。廠家為什么不標(biāo)識(shí)?他們深知這樣的標(biāo)識(shí)猶如“骷髏、有毒”標(biāo)識(shí)一樣,將導(dǎo)致絕大多數(shù)消費(fèi)者拒絕購買。

    這種情況下,“美國人購買食用轉(zhuǎn)基因食品,沒有拒絕購買不食用轉(zhuǎn)基因食品”是假象,實(shí)質(zhì)是“被欺騙、誤導(dǎo)無可奈何無法拒絕購買轉(zhuǎn)基因食品”,與“知情前提下愿意購買轉(zhuǎn)基因食品”根本不同,不可混為一談!

    更為無恥的是,中國轉(zhuǎn)基因推手將美國FDA不要求轉(zhuǎn)基因食品標(biāo)識(shí),作為轉(zhuǎn)基因食品安全無害的“證據(jù)”。

    這樣的“證據(jù)”,如同竭力推廣轉(zhuǎn)基因“黃金大米”的黃金大米人道主義委員會(huì)引用美國塔夫茨大學(xué)湯廣文、中國疾控中心蔭士安等人文章黃金大米論文的內(nèi)容作為證明黃金大米對(duì)兒童安全“證據(jù)”同樣荒唐:(論文稱)在整個(gè)研究過程中,對(duì)于所有試驗(yàn)被試兒童,都未發(fā)現(xiàn)任何不良癥狀……在試驗(yàn)結(jié)束后對(duì)這些兒童進(jìn)行的長達(dá)一年的跟蹤調(diào)查,也未發(fā)現(xiàn)有任何不良癥狀!

The Environmental Working Group is perhaps best known for its groundbreaking and debate-changing farm subsidy database. With over 170 million searches since 2004, EWG’s farm subsidy database tracks recipients of 90 million government agriculture program checks and has shaken up the debate over continuing wasteful subsidies to big agribusinesses.

Due in part to revelations from the farm subsidy database, Congress voted to increase conservation payments to farmers by 80%, providing $13 billion over six years for programs to reduce water contamination and soil erosion, as well as to protect wildlife.

Additionally, U.S. cotton subsidies were declared illegal by the World Trade Organization. The decision, involving billions of dollars, was based on data and analyses EWG provided for Brazil, who filed a landmark case citing the distortion of global prices and unfair restriction of developing nations’ access to the world market.

Americans are eating their weight and more in genetically engineered food every year, a new Environmental Working Group analysis shows. On average, people eat an estimated 193 pounds of genetically engineered food in a 12-month period. The typical American adult weighs 179 pounds.

These figures raise a question: If you were planning on eating your body weight of anything in a year, wouldn’t you want to make sure it was safe to eat?

Shockingly, virtually no long-term health studies have been done on consumption of genetically engineered food.

And there aren’t likely to be any such studies anytime soon. The government isn’t doing this kind of research and is not requiring it of the food industry. It isn’t even making it possible for independent scientists to do it, since under the law, those who hold patents on genetically engineered food get to decide in most cases what testing can – and cannot – be conducted.

As a result, the jury is still out – in fact, it hasn’t even heard the evidence – on whether genetically engineered food might cause health problems. And the answer to this question will likely remain unclear for years.

At least then consumers would know whether the food they buy contains genetically engineered ingredients, and could decide for themselves if this is what they want for themselves and their families.

193 pounds of genetically engineered food is an underestimate

To calculate how much genetically engineered food people eat each year, EWG researchers started with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s 2011 data on per capita consumption of four foods commonly derived from genetically engineered crops: sugar, corn-based sweeteners, salad oil and “corn products.”

We estimated how much of each of these foods were likely to be genetically modified.  We compared the consumption figures with the latest USDA data showing that 95 percent of the sugar beets, 93 percent of the soybeans and 88 percent of the corn grown in the U.S. are genetically engineered. We also applied federal data showing that 79 percent of the salad oil consumed in the U.S. is soybean oil, and 55 percent of the sugar comes from sugar beets.

From these figures, EWG calculated that the average American annually consumes genetically engineered foods in these quantities:  68 pounds of beet sugar, 58 pounds of corn syrup, 38 pounds of soybean oil and 29 pounds of corn-based products, for a total of 193 pounds.

That’s a lot, but it’s likely to be an underestimate, since it does not account for all the genetically engineered foods that people eat. Other foods that commonly come in genetically engineered versions – but are not included in EWG’s calculations – are canola oil, cottonseed oil, papaya, yellow squash and soy products other than soybean oil. (EWG also excluded genetically engineered animal feed that people may consume indirectly by eating meat raised on genetically engineered crops.)

As more genetically engineered crops are approved and grown commercially, the average amount of genetically engineered food consumed would be expected to spike far above 193 pounds a year.

EWG considered only three genetically engineered crops, but more than 30 others are currently being tested in field trials, including apples, barley, bell peppers, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cherries, chili peppers, coffee, cranberries, cucumber, flax, grapefruit, kiwi, lentils, lettuce, melons, mustard, oats, olives, onions, peanuts, pears, peas, persimmons, pineapple, popcorn, radishes, strawberries, sugar cane, sunflower, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, walnuts and watercress.

While it is unclear how long it may take for these new genetically engineered crops to reach the market, this long list makes it likely that people could be eating two or three times their weight in GE food annually within the next decade.

Children, Hispanics likely eating more genetically engineered food

Some people are likely already eating more than their share of genetically engineered food. Hispanic Americans, for example, who typically eat between 2-to-3 times more corn flour than people of other ethnicities, would be expected to get an extra dose of genetically engineered food in their diet.

Similarly, data show that children eat more corn flour and sweeteners per pound of body weight than adults. Given how much of these ingredients tend to be derived from genetically engineered sources, kids are likely ingesting more genetically engineered food.

Taking a stand for their right to know should be reason enough for people to vote for labeling of genetically engineered foods.  Here’s another good reason:  Americans are eating their body weight in genetically engineered food every year – and have little idea where it’s coming from.  That’s certainly something to chew on.

人們的知情權(quán)是人們投票支持轉(zhuǎn)基因食品強(qiáng)制標(biāo)識(shí)的足夠理由。這里提供了另外一項(xiàng)好理由:美國人每年吃的轉(zhuǎn)基因食品量已經(jīng)達(dá)到他們的體重 而且極少了解來自哪些食品。這肯定是應(yīng)當(dāng)認(rèn)真考慮的事。
